Although 'Opposing Tenno' can be seen as Dockennzaburou's consistent theme in his novel Goodbye, My Book from the beginning to the end, its manifestation is quite different from his usual form. It shows that his consciousness of 'the reflection of the nation' has reached a new stage, just as the title of Goodbye, My Book implicates that by saying goodbye to his past and casting a new creative light on the national reflection, the book is finally changed from the usual pattern of comedy into a comical tragedy, and the characters are changed from pure passive victims into active attackers in face of the violence they are suffering from. Besides, the repeated expression of 'destruction' actually conveys the meaning of 'construction', and thus the two antonyms become synonyms.
