摘要
新式教育下林译小说与新式教育具有非常密切的关系。这种密切关系主要体现在五个方面:一、林译小说的口译者是新式教育下的产儿;二、在合作翻译西方小说的过程中,林纾逐渐地把合作翻译西方小说定位成新式教育的一种替代形式;三、林纾本人还是新式教育中的教师;四、新式教育下的林译小说在当时的影响是极大的,这不仅对接纳新式教育的五四文学创建主体有着深刻的影响,而且对那些没有接受新式教育的士大夫和市民也都有一定的影响;五、在五四文学发生过程中,林纾以强硬的反对者身份和五四文学的发难者进行的论战,在客观上促成了五四文学的主张从文化的边缘走向中心,成为正式取代以林纾等为代表的那一代接受西学影响的学生的标志。如此说来,林纾对五四文学发生的贡献在于他以偏激的传统文化立场,通过与五四文学的发难者和倡导者的交锋,使五四文学最终移位于社会的文化中心。
Lin Shu's novel translation is closely related to the then new type education, which can mainly be observed from the following five aspects. Firstly, the translating assistant of Lin Shu grew out of the riew type education; secondly, Lin Shu began to regard his cooperative translating activity as a substituting form for the new type education; thirdly, Lin Shu was himself a teacher in the new type education; fourthly, the novels translated by Lin Shu enjoyed wide-spread influence at that time; lastly, Lin Shu firmly defended the allegations of the May-Fourth Literature, which in reality helped draw the opinions from the fringe of the culture to its center. Thus, Lin Shu contributed a lot in establishing the May-Fourth Literature as the cultural centre of the then society.
