This paper discussed the differences between domestication and alienation in translation, the dispute of scholars on domestication and alienation in translation and the application of domes tication and alienation in translation. It suggests that domestication and alienation play different roles in target language culture. In translation, appropriate translation methods should be chosen according to different purposes and different styles.
