Lord Jim, one of Joseph Conrad's representative works, narrates the adventures of the protagonist before and after he becomes Lord Jim. Undermining the reader's trust in omniscient narration, the first narrative shift in this novel awakens the reader's consciousness of refleetion. Revealed in this narrative teehnique is Conrad's attitude towards knowledge and literary ereation as well as the partieular social environment in whieh literary impressionism appeared and flourished.
