因为"越轨"的笔致与人物形象的"Modern Girl"姿态,丁玲的《莎菲女士的日记》成为一篇经久不衰的作品。在小说问世之初的20世纪30年代,人们对莎菲形象的理解与认识产生过分歧。新中国成立以后,莎菲被现代文学研究者与80年代以来的女性文学研究者视为现代女性"叛逆"精神与追求"灵肉一致"爱情的典型,她身上具有的现代"Modern Girl"气息及其隐喻的社会姿态、文化性质却被遮掩与忽视。事实上,《莎菲女士的日记》对新文坛与现代文学史的独特贡献,是它象征着"Modern Girl"形象塑造的时代到来,隐喻现代启蒙意识形态向都市颓废文明转型带来的历史冲突与精神痛楚。

Ding Ling＇ s Miss Shafei＇ s Dairy has been a famous work for a long time because of its abnormal style of writing and the modern figure. There were some different evaluations for Miss Shafei＇ s figure at the early beginning of China modem novels in the 1930s. Shafei had been regarded as the model of modem woman who sought to love freedom with revolting spirit in 1950s and 1980s. However, The modem feature and the social attitude of the figure had been ignored and covered. In fact, it is significant of Miss Shafei＇ s Dairy in the modem literature history that it indicated the new time of the modem girl arriving and the spirit pain of the modem enlightenment and ＂the decadent civilization＂ of modem cities.
