Cultivating Historical Consciousness of Architectural Design and Understanding Environmental Context

本文扼要介绍了作者近年来尝试将环境脉络问题与当代观念中的历史意识相关联，以及将建筑历史与建筑设计相融合的教学体会。

This article introduces the author's teaching experience in relating the question of environmental context to historical consciousness in the contemporary concept, and in merging architectural history with architectural design. It also points out that an architect can not be without the learning of architectural history just as an artist can not be without the learning of the history of art. Architectural history interrelates ancient and modern times and is the treasure-house of thinking, image and technique. To learn architectural history is not just to know some knowledge about history but to learn how to use the knowledge to cultivate the ability of modern creation and at the same time to distinguish from the imitation of ancient and foreign practices as in the past.
