Influence of Buddhism on the View of Destiny in the Tang Dynasty

唐代民间信仰中,命运观念较为普遍。受佛教影响,因果定命论在民众中迅速发展,逐渐取代天意定命论的主流地位,并使道德定命论走向衰落,对唐以后中国民众的命运观念产生了深远影响。

The views of destiny were very popular in the mess＇ beliefs in the Tang Dynasty. Influenced by the Buddhism, ＂destiny determined by retribution＂ spread rapidly. It gradually took the place of ＂destiny determined by God＇ s will＂, which was the main- stream of the views of destiny. Also, ＂destiny determined by retribution＂ made destiny determined by God＇ s will to go downhill. It had a great influence on the views of destiny after the Tang Dynasty.
