《德伯家的苔丝》是英国著名小说家、诗人托马斯.哈代的代表作,也是一部难得的艺术珍品,在英国19世纪小说中占有十分突出而独特的地位。分析了作品中的环境描写艺术和细节描写的象征意义,总结出小说中人物的悲剧根源在于资本主义社会虚伪的道德观念与经济制度。
Tess of ：he D＇urbervilles, the masterpiece of Thomas Hardy, occupies a prominent and particular stance in England in the 19th century. This paper discusses the art of environment description and symbolic significance of detail description, and concludes that the source of tragedy originates from the hypocritical morality and economic system.
