货币具有丰富的历史。许多东西都曾代替过货币。例如：羽毛、贝壳、布料、盐等等。古罗马时代士兵得到的军饷就是盐。英文salary（工资）这个词就由此而来，源于拉丁文sal，意思是“盐”。
