Prof. WU Guoxiong, a researcher from the CAS Institute of Atmospheric Physics, was elected the president （2007-2011） of the International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science （lAMAS） at its general assembly held during the XXIV Congress of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics （IUGG） from 1 to 14 July in Perugia, Italy. He is the first Asian to hold such a post since the establishment of the organization more than 70 years ago.
