In the muhicuhural American society, "cultural identity" has become a major issue in literature study. This motif is fully embodied in Ellison's Invisible Man. This paper, with reference to the findings of Stuart Hall, discusses the physical and psychological odyssey of the title protagonist for his cultural identity. The paper suggests that this is also the journey on which the black people express their hope, identify with the world and endeavor to establish their group identity.
