Forget the Words to Seek the Sense——Adaptation in Translating Children’s Work

本文首先追根溯源，简要介绍了“归化”一词的中英文含义。接着以赵元任译《阿丽思漫游奇境记》为个案从词汇、句法和语篇三个层面剖析了归化策略在童书翻译中的成功运用。最后指出翻译策略的选择要视读者和社会的需要而定。

This paper first dates back to the Chinese and English origins of “adaptation” and explains its meaning. Then by taking Alice＇s Adventures in Wonderland translated by Zhao Yuanren as a case study, it analyzes how adaptation is successfully applied in translating the children＇ s work at lexical, syntactic and discoursal levels. And finally, it points out that the option of translation strategy is determined by the needs of both reader and society.
