Adaptability Translation Theory and Two English Versions of The Analects

顺应翻译论可以解释《论语》不同时期英译本间的差异。在这一理论指导下,通过对辜鸿铭和安乐哲的《论语》两译本进行对比分析,认为辜鸿铭是顺应其传播儒家文化并得到西方尊重的目的而采用"归化"法;安乐哲则是顺应文化平等尊重、相互融合的背景而采用"异化"法。二者的译介实质都是文化翻译的过程。

Adaptability Translation Theory can explain the differences of the English versions of The Analects in different periods. Taking Ku Hung Ming＇ s and Roger T. Ame＇ s English versions of The Analects as an example, the author thinks that Ku Hung Ming＇s version, a typical “domestication” of translation, is adapted to his main purpose of disseminating Confucianism and wins cultural respect from the western world, while Roger T. Ame＇ s version, a typical “foreignization” of translation, is adapted to mutual equality and mutual integration of different cultures. It is possible to find that both Ku Hung Ming＇s and Roger T. Ame＇ s tranlations are, in effect, a cultural translation.
