里人何求创作的《闽都别记》内容相当庞杂,从民间传说故事的改造、明朝历史的追溯、海外奇国的游历三部分进行探析,其创作动机是复杂的、多元的。有闽中民俗信仰的反映,历史知识的传播,斥奸扬忠的抒怀,作意传奇的娱乐等目的,但从根本上说,劝戒从善、教化民众是主要动机。
