As one of the most important theories of economics, the theory of comparative advantage reveals the cause of trade patterns and the source of gains from trade. However, there have been animadversions to this theory since it came out, and its validity has been suspected. We review the establishment and the development process of the theory, pointing out the conditions under which the theory holds. Through the research we can get full understanding of the validity of the theory of comparative advantage.
