Based on the merits of traditional Longman Dictionary of English, Longman Dictionary of ＆ Culture published in June 2004 has the following features： there are more new words and phrases covering various topics, words are defined by easy definitions and there is more attention to picture illustrations. It offers explanation for language difficulties, not only stressing pragmatic information and communication functions but has a complete and practical appendix. One important feature of this dictionary is its special emphasis on the language culture. It has special columns for notes and features, setting a good example for dealing with cultural information.
