The liposome entrapped superoxide dismutase (L SOD) was prepared with the optimum experimental conditions. The pharmacokinetics, distribution in tissues and anti inflammatory effects on animals of SOD and L SOD have been investigated comparatively. The results showed that the pharmacokinetics properties were greatly improved when SOD was entrapped by liposomes, with t 1/2β prolonged from 40±10 min to 225±32 min, the clearance reduced and AUC increased markedly in rabbits. The L SOD showed the higher concentration in the main tissues except kidney, reached its maximal concentration more rapidly and stayed longer in all tissues than SOD following ip in mice. The L SOD had a more stronger and longer suppressing effect on the swelling of foot induced by carrageenan in mice and rats.
