“96·8” Flood and River Situation in the Lower Yellow River

“96·8”洪水是1985年以来黄河下游的最大洪水。这次洪水演进速度慢，传播时间长，长河段出现历史最高水位。洪水期间，除缺少整治的河段外，河势没有发生大的变化，堤防险情相对较少，但由于坝垛根石缺额大，河道整治工程出险多，滩区淹没面积较大，经过抗洪抢险，洪水安全入海。

As the largest flood since 1985 in the lower Yellow River, '96·8'flood is characterized with slow forward speed, long transferring time, and the highest historic water level in long reaches. During the flood, the river situation is little changed except of the reaches without treatment and there has been relatively less dangerous situation. However, because of lack of rock for dykes and buttresses, some problems are appeared in river channel proect, beaches are submerged in large area. After the efforts of flood protection and emergency rush, the flood is flowed into the sea without harm.
