Reviewing the innovative product brought by chance in our history, this paper propounds a new concept serendipitous innovation, which represents innovation caused by chance. On the basis of the theory on "serendipity", we present the basic elements and traits of this kind of innovative mode. And we reveal that orienting new questions or not is the essential difference between serendipitous innovation and the common creativity. Assuming that the technology brought by serendipitous innovation is generally more radical than conventional innovation, this paper points out this new mode of innovation may be a substitution for radical innovation and become a source of novel techniques.
