The Necessary Subversion——Starting from the "Teleology" in Translation

翻译是一项复杂的精神活动,传统的翻译理论坚持以"文本"为中心,认为任何翻译活动都必须忠实原文,现代西方的功能翻译理论则扬弃和颠覆了"文本中心论",强调翻译应当指向"目的","目的决定手段"。尽管这一观点有"不择手段"之嫌,但是若加以修正,突出翻译过程的责任意识,这将对促进翻译活动达到"视界融合"的效果有积极的意义。

Translation is a complicated spiritual activity. The traditional translation theory advocates the context-based and argues that all the translation activities should be loyal to the origins. However, the functional translations in modern western has developed the useful and discarded the useless of the context based theory, emphasizing ＂the purpose predetermines the instrument＂ mode. Although this kind of concept has the tendency of by any kind of means, only if some amendments are made anti the awareness of responsibility in the translation process has been emphasized, it＇ll exert a positive influence on the translation activity which integrates the understanding of the translator and the original concepts.
