Lexical Metaphors and Their Cognitive and Interpersonal Functions in Scientific Discourse

在科学研究中,词汇隐喻不但具有重要的认知功能,而且是传达人际意义的手段,具有不可忽视的人际功能。一方面,词汇隐喻有利于概念的重组和意义的阐释;另一方面,隐喻性语言既是科学家与公众之间沟通的桥梁,也是科学家劝说、影响公众的工具和手段。

In scientific studies, lexical metaphors not only have significant cognitive function, but also they are means of conveying interpersonal meanings, having important interpersonal function. On the one hand, lexical metaphors perform the resemantizing and exegetical function. On the other, lexical metaphors function as a bridge, which connects and facilitates the interaction between scientists and the masses. Meanwhile, Iexlcal metaphors are means ot persuasion, which influence the masses＇ attitudes and action.
