新中国成立后,中共成为在全国执掌政权的党。中共从加强自身建设入手,高度重视党内思想教育,切实加强党的政治领导,整顿党风,从严治党,在自身思想、政治、组织建设等方面作了积极探索,为新时期提高党的执政能力和领导水平提供了很多可资借鉴的经验,有着重要的现实意义。
