Major Achievements in China's Ancient Coal Science and Technology

中国是世界上最早认识和利用煤炭的国家之一,有长达六七千年的煤炭开发利用史。古代中国人对煤的岩石性能、岩石分类以及煤的成因已有明确认识,在勘找煤炭方面积累了较丰富的经验,并且形成了传统的煤炭开采技术。这些技术在许多方面有独特的创造,包括井筒开凿、巷道部署、矿井运输、提升、通风、排水、照明等等,充分体现了中国古代煤炭科学技术的先进性。

China with a history of six or seven thousand years of development of coal utilization is one of those countries that first recognised and utilized coal. In ancient times, Chinese people gained clear understanding of rock qualities, rock classification and the formation of coal and accumulated rich experiences concerning the exploration of coal and developed traditional coal mining technology, which shows typical and unique creation in many aspects including the shaft drilling, the layout of the mine lanes, mine transportation, elevation, ventilation, drainage and lighting, etc. All this fully exhibits the advanced scientific technology in caol mining in China＇s ancient times.
