A Contrastive Study on Cohesive Devices of Hongloumeng and its English Version——Ellipsis of Subject in Chinese and its English

语篇衔接是对比语言学研究的一个特点。韩礼德和哈桑提出的五种衔接手段同样适于汉语语篇。在中国古典名著《红楼梦》中,主语省略现象比在其译本A Dream of Red Mansions中更为常见。汉英主语省略差异归结为中西主体思维和客体思维差异的产物。

Studying on the cohesive devices is one of the hot subjects of contrastive linguistic study. The cohesion theory promoted by Hallidy and Hason, is applied for English and Chinese. Ellipsis of subject in the famous Chinese novel Hongloumeng and its English version A Dream of Red Mansions. Many samples in Hongloumeng and its English version are illustrated. Further, this thesis makes analysis of the subjective thought and intuition to explain why between Chinese and English the differences on ellipsis of subject exist.
