An attempt is made to the structural analysis of the Metaphoric Structure of Thomas Pynchon＇ s Gravity＇s Rainbow. Through the interlocking of three symbols, rocket, sex and rainbow, the paper aims to unlock the underlying structure of the novel＇s thematic components. The mystic entities of the referential structure ultimately are suggestive of the author＇ s profound analysis of postmodern American society. To reveal the humanistic concern behind Pynchon＇ s bleak mask, the novel offered a penetrating analysis of American social reality and a unique way of understanding contemporary life.
