Innovation as the key to the great undertaking of harbor navigation: interview with Fan Qijin, chief engineer of Yangtze Estuary Administration Bureau of Ministry of Communications

2008年1月8日，在中共中央、国务院举行的国家科学技术奖励大会上，由交通部长江口航道管理局牵头的“长江口深水航道治理工程成套技术”项目获得了年度国家科学技术进步奖一等奖。长江口航道管理局总工程师范期锦从党和国家领导人手中接过了奖励证书。

The development of 'Whole Set Technology for the Yangtze Estuary Deep Water Channel Management Project,' which Fan Qijin, Chief Engineer of Yangtze Estuary Administration Bureau of Ministry of Communication took part in, won the first prize of the National Awards for Science and Technology Progress. This achievement in estuary management has become a successful example for the management of gigantic, complex estuary channels in the world. Mr. Fan accepted an interview from our journal recently, and answered questions concerning the reason and background behind the technology's winning the prize, and the difficulties and focuses of the project on the management of the Yangtze estuary channels. Also, he provided first-hand information on the discussions of whether and how to manage the channels, and related his own feelings towards the project.
