This paper conducts an investigation on the fault diagnosis of the main journals and the parts inside the cylinder of 8NVD48A-2U marine diesel engine by monitoring the apparent vibration signals. The properties of exciting forces of the engine vibration are described. The relationships between the characteristics of vibration signals and the conditions of the component parts are discussed, and some criteria for diesel engine condition monitoring are presented.
