On the Study on the Book of Songs Made by Hu Shi

在现代学术史上,胡适充当着开山人的角色。《诗经》研究虽不是胡适的用力所在,但他仍是现代《诗》学的奠基人之一。他对《诗经》的看法基本代表了当时《诗》学界的观点,而其为回应整理国故运动进行的《诗经》整理,则为后来的《诗经》研究立下了一个新范式。胡适的《诗经》研究既有其独特的价值和意义,也存在着种种不足,是现代《诗》学史上独特的一个。

In the academic history, Hu Shi plays the role of a founder. Although Hu Shi did not focus much on the study of the Book of Songs, he is still one of those who lay the foundation of the modern study of the Book of Songs. His views on the Book of Songs basically represent the perspectives of the academe then. His trimness of the Book of Songs, which responds to the opinions of the traditional civilization campaign,set a new paradigm for the later study of the Book of Songs. Hu Shi＇s study of the Book of Songs not only has the special value and meaning,but also has many shortcomings. His study of the Book of Songs is the unique one in the modern history of study of the Book of Songs.
