Definition of Adverbs in Modern Chinese and Abstraction & Concretization of Its Meaning

自《马氏文通》以来现代汉语中对副词有各种定义,各家框定副词的范围大小不一,归属副词的虚实各持己见。融合这类词的组合能力、句法功能及词义等3项标准于一体为副词下定义,可以较好地划清副词的范围、明确虚实。

This article surveys all sorts of definitions of adverbs that have arisen since Ma′s Grammar was published. It also points out that the reasons for different grammarians to give different definitions of adverbs are the different standards they adopted. We hold that we should define adverbs by combining its composition ability with its syntactic function and meaning. If we adopt this method, we can limit scope of adverbs and make a clear distinction between abstraction and concretization of its meaning.
