In the 16th century, since the sea route between Europe and the Orient had been opened up, Chinese artifacts such as porcelain, furniture, and silk cloth were brought into Europe in large quantities, where they were so popular that they developed into "Chinoiserie" in Europe. The traditional Chinese architecture style popularized by missionaries had caused a dramatic stir in certain areas of Europe for a period of time. People ranging from the king through to common civilians all made great efforts to imitate and build Chinese - style gardens and palaces. The traditional Chinese architecture, which had experienced thousands of years of evolution, was abundantly imbued with aesthetic ideas and characterized by unique beauty. And it was this kind of special beauty that had attracted European attention and imitation, the influence of which has lingered on up to now.
