Changes in narrative accounts of daily llfe reflected the complexity of the Chinese cultural reality in the 1990s. Different interpretations of daily life reflected to a certain extent the contradictions between the dominant culture, the ehte culture and the popular culture, which was manifested in narrative accounts of contemporary literature in the following aspects: on the one hand, efforts were made to highlight the elite and the critical nature of narrative accounts by trying to help restore the "self" and the "public" dimension; on the one hand, efforts were exerted to cater to the market' s interest and the public tastes, so that narrations based on "Self" were so swelled that they became narrations of desires, which accelerated the trend of popular literature, but which endangered the survival of literary poetic quality.
