This thesis is an analysis of The Utmost Misfortune by the celebrated contemporary Austrian writer Peter Handke and a comment on the fundamental features of its creative art in the perspective of art criticism. Based on lots of extracts from the novel, it outlines the author's attitude and artistic guidelines in handling the relationships in the course of his literary creation between language and creation, between truth and fabrication and between the author and the protagonists. The paper also probes into the writer's innovations in literary creation and in the aesthetic thought of contemporary narrative art from the angle of the genre of literary expression.
