Habermas's Theory of Public Sphere and its Religious Meaning:An Interpretation Based on Hermeneutics

哈贝马斯构建公共领域学说的主旨是通过对资产阶级公共领域的研究,重建规范的民主理想。哈贝马斯在研究公共领域时,把宗教看成是理性的对立物,对宗教的排斥多于认同。然而进一步的研究发现,公共领域具有很强的宗教意蕴。从历史上看,宗教早已参与到公共领域中来,并且宗教本身是政治公共领域形成的一个重要因素;而在当代多元的社会里,宗教共同体和宗教话语更是公共领域多元因素中的一个重要部分。

The main intention of Habermas＇ theory of the public sphere is to reconstruct the normative ideal of democracy through investigating the bourgeois public sphere. In his investigation, Habermas regards religion as opposite to reason, and then he excludes religion more than he identifies with it. However, further examination reveals that the public sphere has a strong religious meaning. Religion has been part of the public sphere since ancient times, and religion itself has been an important factor in the formation of the political public sphere. Moreover, in the contemporary multi-dimensional society, the religious community and the religious discourse are still an important parts in multi-dimensional factors.
