The general situation of coal based synthetic natural gas （SNG） technologies at home and abroad was introduced in brief. The SNG market prospect in China was analyzed. The processes and their features of coal based SNG, the main equipment and consumption figures were described in detail. The investment based on heating value, the cost and total thermal efficiency were compared with those of coal based methanol and coal based oil scenarios. In conclusion, it pointed out that coal based SNG is more competitive and has large market.
