This paper describes in detail the conodont sequence across the Moscovian-Kasimovian boundary of the Upper Carboniferous in South China. The following conodont zones in descending order are recognized： Streptognathodus gracilis, St. cancellosus, Idiognathodus sagittalis, Swadelina makhlinae-Sw.nodocarinata, Sw. subexcelsa, and Idiognathodus podolskensis zones. Their worldwide biostratigraphic correlation is discussed. Based on the Chinese data and on the correlation of these conodont zones in the world,we believe that the first appearance of Idiognathodus sagittalis as the base of the Kasimovian is the best choice. Idiognathodus sagittalis, Swadelina makhlinae and Sw. subexcelsa are here reported for the first time from China.
