The perovskite type double oxides, expressed as MTiO 3 (M=Ca, Sr, Ba, Pb etc ), own special physical and chemical features. Recently it has been found that only PbTiO 3 has photocatalytic activity. This paper is aimed to study the difference of the photocatalytic degradation efficiency for water soluble dyes on CaTiO 3, PbTiO 3 and its dopant. Under the experimental conditions, the adsorption of dye is predominant on MTiO 3 (M=Ca, Sr, Ba) owing to the fact that their band gap is too broad, while the photocatalytic degradation occurs on PbTiO 3 and PbTiO 3/La. The experimental results have also shown that the PbTiO 3/La ( x (La)=2%) has much higher photoreactivity than PbTiO 3 as measured by the photocatalytic efficiency for dye degradation and the maximum absorption shifts to the visible region, so the photodegradation efficiency is enhanced. The possible reason and mechanism are discussed.
