A Diachronic Investigation of "A henduo(很多)" and Its Diffusion in Modern Chinese

"A很多"属于某些位于南方地区的汉语方言的句法结构。上世纪90年代中后期它逐渐进入了普通话。据考察,7年来15家报纸上这一结构逐年增加。文章对今后这一结构在共同语中的发展进行了预测。"A很多"出现在普通话中并迅速增加有其存在的语义基础,调查支持此分析。"A很多"丰富了共同语形容词程度表达的形式,是一种应该欢迎的句法结构。

＂A henduo （很多）＂ is a construction characteristic of some Chinese southern dialects. It gradually emerged from dialects of southern China into Mandarin in the middle and latter half of early 1990s. The paper reports that the occurrence of construction has been on the increase each year in 15 newspapers from 1999 to 2006. The paper predicts the trend of the construction in common language. There is a semantic motivation for its appearance in Mandarin Chinese, The construction enriches Chinese expressions of degree adjectives.
