《英汉大词典》研评

On《The English-Chinese Dictionary》(Second Edition)

《英汉大词典》(第2版)与新世纪其他同类词典对比,具有参见严密、符合全国科学技术名词审定委员会审定推出的译名规范、语用信息正确等优点。与第1版比较,第2版词汇量更大、收词更为广泛、查得率很高;释义更精确,例解更为清楚;更具有百科全书的功能等特点。通过实例,本文也分析了第2版中的美中不足:如实际操作与体例说明不一,成语的排列定位舍简求繁,体例划一不到位,释义的科学性及印刷校对存在问题),并提出可供参考的修改意见。

In this article, the author gives an appraisal of the pros and cons of 《The English-Chinese Dictionary》（Second Edition）：Firstly,in comparison with other congener peers of the new century,this dictionary constitutes the merits of both reference strictness and in accordance with the regulations of standardized term translation and correctness of linguistic information issued by National Scientific and Technological Terminology Committee; Secondly, in comparison with its first edition, this dictionary enjoys an even more magnitude glossary, more comprehensive word items enlisting, much higher rate of successful consulting ,and more precise paraphrase as well as clearer illustration, which impart this dictionary with the functions exclusively featured by encyclopedia. This article, with exemplification, also analyzes the slight flaws in second edition： the inconsistency between actual practicing and exemplifying,over-complicated listing arrangement of idioms, contra-arrangement of exemplification,as well as the problems in terms of scientific paraphrasing, printing and collating, and puts forward the opinions for reference and further amendment.
