The content variation and distribution of heavy metals of Zn, Cu and Hg in the sediments of the Suzhou River in Shanghai have been studied by using the speciation extraction procedure outlined by Tessier and their sedimentation features have been basically discussed. The results show that the Zn, Cu and Hg contents of sediment samples are close to or higher than Organism Influencing Level in the sediments; Zn and Cu are mainly existed in organic matters and Fe-Mn oxides, with little in exchangeable association. The Zn,Cu and H g contents are changed from relative low in the upper part of the sediment,to relative high in the middle part and relative low in the lower part of the sediments.
