At present, core routers contain a huge number of buffers to hold packets during congestion, which.assures high rate of linking utilization, but leads to high complication for touters design. Stanford model suggests that the buffer size can decrease to 1% of Bandwidth Delay Product (BDP). This paper analyzes the buffer size and shows that the Stanford model can lead to high drop rate of packets. Low drop rate and high throughput can be obtained with smaller buffer size in an acceptable link utilization.
