OAM is one of the key issues impacting the deployment of Ethernet into MAN and further into WANs. This paper presents the requirements of OAM in the carrier Ethernet. Based on the development of Ethernet OAM standards and technologies, this paper analyzes the corresponding protocols, mechanisms, implementations and applications.
