Speed reduction:an alternative in coping with high oil prices

为克服国际燃油价格上涨带来的运营成本压力，1月18日，中远集运对外宣布，将在维持各航线原有服务的基础上，降低船队平均运营速度10％。在全球原油价格飙升、不堪船舶油耗成本重负的状态下，新年伊始出台减速航行的船公司已非中远集运一家。

To lower the increased operational costs resulted from the rise of oil prices internationally,COSCON announced on January 18th a 10% decline in the average speed of its ships while maintaining the original services. Against the background of international oil price soars and increased operational costs,many shipping companies have planned to or started to reduce ship speed and control oil consumption. Speed reduction,aimed at cutting operational costs,generates another positive effect,and that is pollution reduction. Therefore,it is expected that more shipping companies will adopt this approach in 2008.
