Mystic Search:A Reading of "Zaabalawi"

马哈福兹的短篇小说《宰阿贝拉维》描写主人公寻找圣徒的神秘之旅,风格扑朔迷离。本文通过主人公寻找途中的几番遭遇,解读了小说的批判现实意义;并结合苏非神秘主义思想,解析了小说蕴涵的神秘主义内涵;还联系作者在多部作品中表达的人生观、宗教观,揭示了作者藉"神秘的寻找"所要传达的意旨:人生的意义,不在于无谓的寻找,而在于工作,创造,将"真主的世界"变成人间天堂。

The short story 'Zaabalawi' by Naguib Mahfuz depicts in a fantastic style the protagonist's journey searching for the saint.With a look into the protagonist's encounters in his search,this paper analyses the social criticism in the story,and,in connection with Sufism,demonstrates the mystical implications.Relating 'Zaabalawi' with the world view and religious philosophy expressed in the author's other works,the present study also tries to argue that the 'mystic search' implies that the meaning of life is not in sheer search but in labour and creation to materialize Allah's paradise on the earth.
