摘要
本文围绕一部在奥斯汀接受史上起到重要作用的传记文献《简.奥斯汀回忆录》,借鉴哈布瓦赫的"集体记忆"理论,回顾和重读了19世纪末、20世纪初相关的文化事件和现象,以此来探讨"奥斯汀"的特定形象构建及成为文化能指的过程。本文认为《回忆录》对于奥斯汀接受的最大影响在于构建了"英格兰的简姑妈"这一神话,使"奥斯汀"成为一个蕴含着复杂的情感内涵、用以在特定历史语境中界定自身身份的文化符号。
This essay addresses the issue of Jane Austen's cultural construction in the context of 'Austenmania',centering on Jane Austen's Memoir,an important biography in the history of Austen's reception.Aiming to analyze and unravel the 'Myth of Aunt Jane' with the application of the theory of collective memory,it suggests that Austen as a cultural signifier has been constructed and appropriated from the late Victorian society and has been absorbed into the discourse of defining a national and cultural identity.
