Viewing the Continuation of "City Beautiful Movement" with Foresighted View——Comparison of Two Schemes

"城市美化运动"在设计思想、目的、手法等方面均具有片面性和时代局限性。但若以发展眼光看待,其中一些积极因素仍然对今天的规划与设计产生着延续性影响(尤其在西方),引导着当代设计在继承西方古典主义传统以外,更进一步探索对人性本质和审美需求的深层次理解。

＂City Beautiful Movement＂ has both one-sidedness and limitation of the times, whatever in design concepts, goals or methods. However, taking a foresighted view, some positive factors of the movement still have a continuity impact on modern planning and design （especially in the West） , and lead modern design to further explore human nature and aesthetic requirements besides inheriting the tradition of western classicism.
