This paper presents an overview of two instruments used for measuring the depth of L2 vocabulary knowledge （VKS ＆ WAT）, with a brief description of the Word Lists and L2 vocabulary knowledge. VKS ＆ WAT have their own advantages and disadvantages, indicating that researchers must use them properly in their research by taking the research purposes into consideration.
