摘要
语言交际是人类赖以维系社会和人际关系的重要手段。委婉语的使用避免了引起交际双方的不快从而损害双方的关系。委婉语可以反映出各种各样的社会心理,从而也体现出了委婉语的各种社会交际功能。文章从社会语言学的角度来阐述英语委婉语的六种社会效用:避俗效用、避讳效用、褒扬效用、掩饰效用、礼貌效用、幽默效用。
Language communication is an important way to maintain the social relationship among human beings. The use of Euphemism avoids causing the unpleasantness of the two communicative sides and damages their relationship. Euphemism reflects all kinds of social mentality and social communicative function. Based on social linguistic, this paper mainly explores six social functions of English Euphemism.
