The Confucius theory of literature and art created during the pre- Qin dynasty are expounded systematically in Maoshi Preface . The book can be seen as the summarization of traditional poetry theory from the pre - Qin Dynasty to the Hart Dynasty . It inherits the thought of the Confucian＇ s poetry theory which is viewed as the basis of explaining poems. The methods , such as ＂beauty＂, ＂criticism＂ are taken as a tool to analyze the poems. There are some different point of views in Maoshi Preface. The explanations for the poems are more concrete in Maoshi Preface than ever before. The historical facts, the political issues are also emphasized here . It put the theory of poems together with the specific times to develop the theory of positive variation for Style and Elegance. However , Maoshi Preface has also something unreasonable in explaining poems.
