On the Spreading and Development of Buddhism in Guangdong in the Yüan Dynasty

元代广东佛教的传播与发展形成一定的特点。藏传佛教在这一时期传入粤地。佛教在传播和发展过程中,出现佛儒相争的现象,但佛教的势力比儒教要大得多,甚至欺压儒教。南华寺受到蒙古统治者的扶持和保护,也体现出元朝政府对禅宗顿教的态度。寺庙、佛塔、佛像等的修缮、重建、新建,也是元代佛教传播和发展的一个重要方面,尤其是用石材建造寺院和佛塔比较流行。

Certain characteristics of the spreading and develoopment of Buddhism in Guangdong are shown in the Yüan Dynasty.During this period,Tibetan Buddhism was disseminated to Guangdong.Competed with Confucianism in its development,Buddhism even bullied Confucianism.Mongol rulers expressed their attitude to the Dayton Zen by supporting and protecting Nanhua temple.It's an important aspect of the spreading and development of Buddhism in the Yüan dynasty in Guangdong.To repair and reconstruct the temples,pagodas,and statues, and a prevailing style to construct temples and pagodas are important proof.
