On Chu Ci's influence on Jiang Yan's literary creation

江淹的文学创作深受《楚辞》的影响,其诗、赋大量袭用《楚辞》的语言;并继承了屈原发愤抒情的传统,充分展现了他遭受贬谪时的心路历程;他还大量运用比兴的艺术手法,强调文学的讽谏意义。江淹自觉的学习《楚辞》和他崇尚复古的创作主张一致,这也正是他在骈体盛行,追求文学的娱乐价值的时代,表现出独特的创作风格的一个重要原因。

Jiang Yan was greatly affected by Chu Ci in his literary creation. Taking over a lot of language from Chu Ci in his poems and fu and carrying forward Qu Yuan＇ s tradition of expressing emotions fully showed his mental state when he was relegated. He also used a lot of artistic skills such as bi and xing and attached impor- tance to the satirical and remonstrant significance of literature. Jiang Yan＇ s conscientious study of Chu Ci corresponded to his advocating returning to the ancients in writing, which was an important reason for his unique writing stlyle shown in an era in which rhythmical prose style prevailed and the recreational value of literature was seeked.
